Don’t we all love our tile floors? They are durable and certainly a pleasure to look at. Well, the pleasure to look at part starts to be less and less true as our tiles and grout lines starts to get dirty and our regular damp mopping processes no longer gets the dirt out. No fear, their are options for you to consider to correct this problem and get your floors back to what they used to look like.
Want to know how then read on!
Because grout is porous, it can be exceptionally challenging to keep it clean. Even after you’ve swept your tile floor, it’s still not easy to get all the dirt out. This is mainly because grout lines are somewhat lower than the tiled surface, so dirt falls into the grout. If you have tile floors, here’s are some tile and grout cleaning guidelines:
Using a Bleach Solution
You can use a bleach solution of a gallon of water mixed with ¾ cup of bleach. Using a toothbrush or small brush, scrub the solution directly on the grout. Refrain from scrubbing too hard as you don’t want to hurt your grout.
Use safety goggles so that bleach isn’t splattered in your eyes and gloves on your hands and be sure your work area has good ventilation. You can also use a foaming grout cleaner. But before you scrub, allow the cleaner to soak deep into the grout.
Considerations and Warnings
- Vacuum or sweep your tile floors before you mop as you want to remove as much dry soil as you can.
- Use a grout sealer on newly installed grout about 10 to 14 days after your grout cures, which enhance its appearance.
- Severely stained grout may need to be replaced. To remove your old grout you’ll need special tools which you can find at a tile store. After removing the old discolored grout, thoroughly clean the gaps between the tiles, using a bleach solution. Next, apply your new grout and then seal it.
What’s Involved in Professional Tile and Grout Cleaning?
The first step is inspecting your tile to determine the best way to clean it. Stains and spots are pre-sprayed with an environmentally friendly product. Next, a high pressure cleaner is used to remove embedded soil and dirt. This machine also rinses and expels excess water.
A professional floor specialist also thoroughly cleans your baseboards and corners. After the tile has totally dried, the technician can seal the grout lines to protect your grout from damage and better resist from staining.
Besides being uncomfortable, getting down on your hands and knees to manually clean tile and grout can be messy. Even worse, it’s not as effective as hiring a professional service.
